I have gone multiple tests, and every tests show signs of hypothyroidism, but low from normal range. The doctors will not treat me for it.
I suffer from most of the systems daily. I am forty-three year old single mother. Everyday it is a little harder for me to function without being unhappy -- everything I do takes a great deal of effort to jack-up motivation. The doctors are more than happy to treat me for depression, and happily throw me another brand of pills should the prior product doesn't work. So I remind them, I am week, dizzy, constipated, some of a times I feel out of breath; they go ignored, they say my blood pressure is lower for normal, and better than high blood pressure.
I can't sleep either: one of the student doctors thinks my inability to fall a sleep is causing the depression. Their studies have proven that I have great difficulty entering REM sleep. I am still waiting to see if the sleeping pills the doctor/s at the Sleep Clinic prescribed will solve my low energy and depression -- oh, my other systems: week old constipation and dizziness, bloating like weight gain is outside thier specialty.

I fantasize, not of killing meyself, but death so I will not need to feel active, and feel miserable because my body feels rotten.

Please help,

This is better thyroid health advice than Oprah received!

If you feel any part of SLUGGISH: Sleepy, fatigued, Loss of memory, trouble concentrating, have Unusually dry skin, a Goitre, Gradual personality change, an Increase in weight, Sensitivity to the cold and are experiencing Hair loss, you should have your doctor order a TSH test.

That may not be the only place that you can go because more and more frequently TSH tests are available at health fairs and pharmacies. An FDA approved ThyroChek test is a simple finger stick procedure with a positive or negative result in less than 10 minutes. This test shows a positive result at 5mIU/L +/- 10%. As mentioned by Drs. Seigel and Durrant-Peatfield, there is ongoing discussion on individual level. Right now, when it is probable that the person sitting next to you has no idea where the thyroid gland is located, it is a good first step. It opens a dialogue on thyroid health.

It is just as important to know your TSH level as it is your cholesterol level or your blood pressure score because good health begins six inches below the chin.
